Doctor Who Season 7 Trailer – Daleks, Dinosaurs, And Death?

Whovians who have embraced Amy Pond, Weeping Angels, and Steven Moffat, rejoice! Your tonic of choice is set to return to the airwaves August 25th. Of course, if you happen to be at the Edinbugh International Television Festival, which begins on August 23rd, you may get to see it before it officially hits the TV. Either way, Season 7 sees the return of Doctor Who to television after a particularly long hiatus. Amy and Rory will rejoin the Doctor for at least the first part of the season. Well, probably at least until this happens during a fight with some Daleks:

Ready For More Batman? Animated Dark Knight Returns – Part One Trailer Now Online

On the off chance that Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises was too upbeat and happy ending oriented for you, hardcore Batman fans can now look forward to an animated version of Frank Miller’s 1986 classic, The Dark Knight Returns,…if they can overlook Robocop Peter Weller in place of Kevin Conroy as the voice of The Batman.

The animated feature follows the same premise as the graphic novel – a retired Batman coming back to protect Gotham from a brutal gang called The Mutants, who have come into possession of military grade weapons. He takes on a new Robin, a young girl named Carrie Kelly. She will be voiced by Ariel Winter. Harvey Dent/Two-Face (Wade William) and Commissioner Gordon (David Selby) also make appearances.

Cloud Atlas Extended Six Minute Trailer Hits The Internet

Cloud Atlas, the new movie from the Wachowski brothers and Tom Tykwer, debuted an extended six minute trailer on the Web today. Having seen the trailer now, it looks like it will serve up some trippy Inception level cinema, with a storyline that spans across centuries.

Here’s a summary of the novel it’s based on, via io9:

A reluctant voyager crossing the Pacific in 1850; a disinherited composer blagging a precarious livelihood in between-the-wars Belgium; a high-minded journalist in Governor Reagan’s California; a vanity publisher fleeing his gangland creditors; a genetically modified “dinery server” on death-row; and Zachry, a young Pacific Islander witnessing the nightfall of science and civilisation — the narrators of Cloud Atlas hear each other’s echoes down the corridor of history, and their destinies are changed in ways great and small.

In his captivating third novel, David Mitchell erases the boundaries of language, genre and time to offer a meditation on humanity’s dangerous will to power, and where it may lead us.

You Don’t Get Much Without Giving – Review Of Wolverine #309

A couple of weeks ago, I sat through a handful of Marvel panels at SDCC and learned…not very much. Well, at least not a lot about anything related to the assorted members of the Avengers or X-Men – which was weird, what with the whole panel dedicated to them and their “summer blockbuster” event (yes, those were the, somewhat paraphrased, words of Marvel EIC Axel Alonso). At the AVX panel, much of the time was dedicated to cheerleading, with only modest time devoted to characters and titles. Most of those titles discussed ended up being related to books that will be released post AVX (Marvel NOW!). If Alonso sees the culmination of each year’s storylines as leading into a big summer time event, you’d think he might take a cue from the the actual “blockbusters” (hint – they’re often in Hall H or Ballroom 20 and you have to line up for them the day before…not waltz into them 10 minutes before they start.). Maybe have a panel that is balanced with more writers and artists on it than editorial. Talk about some of the individual books, both team and solo, of characters involved in your “summer blockbuster” in the here and now, rather than in, ahem, Marvel NOW. I’m sure it wouldn’t have killed Arune Singh to maybe take some time out from saying “How many of you love {insert event or movie}?” and get one of the architects on speaker phone, the way he did for the Amazing Spider-Man And Other Stuff That Was Marginally Related To Spider-Man panel we attended the next day. But, who knows? Rumor has it the entire staff of Marvel has to share a single bathroom in their building. Maybe they make him pay for his own long distance?

Red Dwarf X (Series 10) Set To Make Fall Comeback On British TV

DaveTV, a branch of the UKTV broadcasting network has announced that Red Dwarf will be returning to the air this fall. Look for the return of Lister, Rimmer, and Kryten in whacky adventures in which Lister may or may not finally get home to Earth. They may be older, but they’re still the same smeg heads we all know and love. While a specific air date has not yet been given, DaveTV has posted on its site that it will update with new Red Dwarf related stuff every Friday. Conan O’Brien Finds Link Between TDKR Baine And Mitt Romney (Bane)

So, on Tuesday I guess Rush Limbagh said some nonsense about how the villain in The Dark Knight Rises, Bane, is actually supposed to be a liberal slam against Mitt Romney and his former company Bain Capital. Really. Here’s the quote:

Have you heard, this new movie, the Batman movie — what is it, the Dark Knight Lights Up or something? Whatever the name of it is. That’s right, Dark Knight Rises, Lights Up, same thing. Do you know the name of the villain in this movie? Bane. The villain in the Dark Knight Rises is named Bane. B-A-N-E. What is the name of the venture capital firm that Romney ran, and around which there’s now this make-believe controversy? Bain. The movie has been in the works for a long time, the release date’s been known, summer 2012 for a long time. Do you think that it is accidental, that the name of the really vicious, fire-breathing, four-eyed, whatever-it-is villain in this movie is named Bane? … Anyway, so this evil villain in the new Batman movie is named Bane. And there’s now discussion out there as to whether or not this was purposeful, and whether or not it will influence voters. It’s going to have a lot of people. This movie, the audience is going to be huge, lot of people are going to see the movie. And it’s a lot of brain-dead people, entertainment, the pop culture crowd. And they’re going to hear ‘Bane’ in the movie, and they are going to associate Bain. And the thought is that when they start paying attention to the campaign later in the year, and Obama and the Democrats keep talking about Bain, not Bain Capital, but Bain, Romney and Bain, that these people will think back to the Batman movie — “Oh yeah, I know who that is.” There are some people who think it will work. There are some people think it will work. Others think — “You’re really underestimating the American people who think that will work.”

I’d say his statements must make the folks over at Southeast Missouri State University really proud of him, but he never actually graduated from there. Bane, the Batman villain, was created in 1993, Rush. Even if you don’t have a full college education, Google is your fucking friend, buddy.

Meanwhile, leave it to the fine staff at Conan O’Brien to poke further fun at this ridiculous statement.

San Diego Comic-Con 2012 : A Quick Batmobile Preview Before Preview Night

Greetings from sunny San Diego, California!  We are at T-minus 2 hours to the convention floor opening up for SDCC 2012 Preview Night.  While we bide our time in hot, sweet anticipation of the press of nerd flesh upon booth babes, the Crisis On Infinite Midlives Temporary San Diego Office thought we’d take a moment to share some photos of one exhibit that’s already up and open to the public: Warner Brothers Batmobile exhibit.

This shrouded sight greeted us from out of our hotel window as we stumbled from our beds this afternoon morning.  Six Batmobiles, ranging from Adam West’s 1955 Lincoln Futura to the brand new camouflage Tumbler from this year’s Dark Knight Rises.  Here’s a closer look at the vehicles the public can currently gawk at, after the jump!
