Yeah, I know we were gonna release a podcast today, but a couple of unexpected things got in the way. The first being that Amanda, my co-host and co-editor, is still trapped at her day job. The second being that the Crisis On Infinite Midlives Home Office Mascot, Parker The Kitten, is inconsolable because Amanda is not here, and is displaying his displeasure in his normal reasonable way: by attempting to destroy everything we love.
So right now we intend to record and release a late episode of the podcast tomorrow (we won’t be talking about any particular comics since we won’t have had a chance to read the new books, but we’ll address a couple on the planned, regularly-scheduled weekend episode.
And we will be addressing this little news item in a little more detail on the next episode as well: the main cast of Star Wars: Episode VII was announced today.
So here’s who you’re looking at: Director J. J. Abrams is top center, to the left of Artoo Deetoo (who apparently has angered someone at The Mouse, given the coffin he’s been stuffed in). And clockwise from Abrams, we’ve got Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Producer Bryan Burk, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Adam Driver and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan. And most exciting of all after the prequels, George Lucas is absolutely nowhere in sight.
So yes, most of the original cast is gonna be in the new flick (which I think we all knew once Carrie Fisher was spotted with life and hope in her eyes), along with that guy from Girls and the dude from Attack The Block.
But the interesting choice to me is Andy Serkis, who while a good actor in his own right, is really best known for being the world class motion capture guy behind Gollum in Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit, as well as main monkey Caesar in Rise of The Planet of The Apes. And I have a theory or two as to what he might be doing in Episode VII…
…but I will talk about those theory’s in our next podcast. Now, if you’ll excuse me, Parker is cordially inviting me to offer him my attention by trying to eat the XBox power cord.
