Dan DiDio Enrages Royalty, Turns People Gay

Historically, Dan DiDio’s panels at San Diego Comic-Con are amongst my favorites every year. The dude has, at least publically, a visceral enthusiasm for DC Comics that is infectious to a crowd… but one which has a fine, keen edge, that isn’t difficult to strike off of true. When Dan’s forced off script, there can be unintended consequences, from unexpected revelations to real tension. Just ask San Diego Batgirl.

Well, this weekend is Mark Millar’s Kapow convention in London, Dan’s been doing panels, and has made a few interesting revelations about the immediate future of DC Comics… the first being that Wonder Woman, ambassador of peace from Paradise Island and the most famous strong female superhero ever created by a polyamorous bondage nut, might be preparing to kill us all.

But the most interesting moment came from the final question of the session. A fan asked about Wonder Woman in comparison with Superman as the social crusader and Batman as Robin hood [sic] figure. Wonder Woman is royalty, and he asked if DiDio could see a situation where she would decide that her place is amongst the rulers of the earth [sic] rather than trying to it [sic] in with humanity, and would this bring her into conflict with the rest of the Trinity. DiDio looked stunned at this, and was unable to answer for a little bit before attempting to bat the question to one side. He eventually told us that as the US doesn’t have royalty then it would be unlikely to happen, but he waited too long to respond and he doesn’t have Bob Wayne’s evasion skills. The general feeling from the audience was that the question had inadvertently strayed too close to plans for Wonder Woman, either in her own title, in Justice league [sic] or in the upcoming Trinity War.

So there’s an interesting little tidbit about upcoming plot events in the DC Universe! But then again, assuming Dan’s verbal missteps actually have the meaning that Bleeding Cool infers, what could possibly motivate Wonder Woman to abandon her mission of peace and become conquering and violent?

Well, if I were to hazard a guess, maybe we’re about to discover that Wonder Woman might possibly become agitated and confused due to a sudden and unexpected lust for poontang:

At the time Dan stated they would introduce new LGBT characters rather than switch [existing characters’] orientation, but the question asked why DC would switch race, size, age, all sorts of identifying features, but not orientation.

Surprisingly, DiDio stated that they had changed DC’s policy in this regard. And they ae [sic] about to reintroduce a previously existing DC character who was previously straight and now will be “one of our most prominent gay characters.”

As Bob Wayne explained that, just like the President of the United States, the co-publisher’s policy on this “has evolved.”

Now I think we all know that DC isn’t about to turn one of the big, Justice League-level characters gay, no matter how much DC or its readers think that it desperately needs to diversify its cast of characters, no matter what Grant Morrison thinks about some of them. But with the commitment to maintain 52 monthly books that DiDio also made at Kapow, and with the reintroduction of Earth 2 and its cornucopia of alternate version of primary DC Universe heroes, we should see the newly-gay character any time now.

Who’s it gonna be? If I had to put my money on it, I’d go with Amanda Waller. Why? Well, given all the weight loss she underwent during the New 52 reboot, she had to have stopped eating something.
