Todd McFarlane Leaves Bankruptcy, Miracleman Fighting Valiently To Remain Dead

Hide your baseballs, kids: Todd McFarlane’s out of bankruptcy.

Todd’s company, Todd McFarlane Productions, voluntarily declared bankruptcy back in 2004, and only an irresponsible fool would imply that it had anything to do with Neil Gaiman’s lawsuit against Todd over the rights to Medieval Spawn, Angela, and Cogliostro. That suit was reportedly settled back in January, so all that was left to put the company back into the Black Ink was to pay some assorted costs to cover odds and ends totalling $975.

Oh, and an afterthought check to Gaiman for an even million-one.

Now, to be fair, that might actually be a couple of checks, because the deal was that Todd would pay his own lawyers… although based on the originating lawsuit, it wouldn’t utterly shock me if we hear about a new lawsuit next week alleging either that Todd owes attorneys’ fees, or that Gaiman can’t believe that Todd’s attorneys’ fees totalled exactly $1.1 million.

Either way, it’s the end of a long, pitched and heated battle that means Gaiman’s a bit richer, Todd can go back to holding his head up high as he sells horrifying toys to impressionable children, and my complete run of Miracleman issues is still worth some serious, serious bank.
